74 developed Max|MSP to combine a graphical programming environment
(Max) with audio extensions (MSP). With Max|MSP you get close to 400 objects to
build with the core components for a complete audio app development
environment, whether for sound design or performance.
Route audio with audio gates or switches.
Convert audio signals to events, detect edges, zero-crossings, RMS averaging,
peak detection and signal capture. Record and playback audio files for looping,
varispeed, sample-accurate cue creation and triggering.
Visualize audio with
filter design, signal level metering, oscilloscope, waveform display, and
editing. Tap into recursive and non-recursive (FIR) filters, resonant filterbank,
state-variable filters, comb filters, allpass filter, phase shifter and
interpolating delay with feedback. Manage spectral processing apps with windowing
and overlap, and frame-based calcucations.
Further, with MSP, you can process FFT(forward or inverse FFT), transform
polar-to-Cartesian coordinates, and import MP3s and soundtracks using QuickTime.
