896HD is one of the favorite portable FireWire audio interfaces on the market,
because of its great sound and its ability to record at 192kHz. Many a producer,
band and composer use the 896HD on the road as the centerpiece of their mobile
recording studio.
This device is one serious audio interface, recording at 24-bit, 192kHz with 18
separate inputs and 22 outputs. Its got eight mic preamps, eight channels
of ADAT digital I/O and stereo AES/EBU. The 896HD is also
easily expandable by daisy chaining additional
828mkII or 896HD interfaces via FireWire.

Hook It Up, Baby!
The two mic/guitar/instrument inputs feature analog pre-amps, so you can plug in
all of your favorite outboard gear. Any input can be used as a return, or you can
add additional effect loops by using the 896HDs CueMix DSPŠ on-board
mixing option, which is a DSP-driven 18-input/8-bus mixing and monitoring matrix
that you can use in lieu of an external mixer or patchbay.
No Lag, But Total Control
Once youve hooked up all of your studio gear, you can then monitor the live inputs through the
896HDs main outs, headphone jack or any other output with virtually no
lag time or taxing of your CPU. You can also create and control your own custom
monitor mixes for the main outs, headphones and other outputs via the included
CueMix Console software or through the front panel on the 896HD.
Use It On The Road or In The Studio
If youre on the road and dont want to drag a mixer along,
you can use the 896HD without one, controlling the mix through the
896HDs front-panel controls. Or, in the studio, the 896 HDs eight channels
of ADAT optical digital I/O, plus stereo S/PDIF, make it a great addition to your
digital mixer.
Works With Everything!
The 896HD is compatible with Mac OS 9, Mac OS X (version 10.2 or later),
Windows Me/2000/XP and with WDM/ASIO/Core Audio/Sound Manager drivers. If your
apps or devices fall outside of these specs, you can use MOTU AudioDesk
workstation app (included) for the Mac.

On-set scoring with the 896HD
In 2001, Nike flew sound designer and composer Richard Devine out to L.A. to
score two Nike commercials on set.
I did the whole thing in Logic Audio with another software sampler, Native
Instruments
Battery it was completely done on that, he
recalls. It was so funny because everyone on the set was like,
Youre doing this whole commercial on that
computer? and I was
like, Yep. Its all you need. I had a 896 and a
pair of headphones and that was it.
